University of Aveiro (UA)

The University of Aveiro is one of the most dynamic and innovative universities in Portugal, and is regarded as one of the best universities in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings.

The UA team is affiliated with the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM), which has the mission of developing leading international R&I on environmental sciences and related risks, including extreme weather events and climate change. CESAM's work is focused on complex socio-ecological coastal systems and marine areas, with the goal of promoting a more efficient use of terrestrial and aquatic resources, leading to a competitive, resilient and sustainable economy.

Within the LIFE project Godwit Flyway, UA is working on the following actions in the Tagus estuary:

  • Optimisation of habitat management towards supporting biodiversity, focusing on the Black-tailed Godwit
  • Development of monitoring and assessment methods to support management actions and improve synergies between land uses that promote wetland habitats
  • Dissemination of the project activities and results in coordination with national and international partners
